BatchMeal — Privacy Policy

BatchMeal ("the app", "we", "us") is an iOS application that turns food videos from Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube into structured recipes, weekly meal plans, and grocery lists. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, why, and how we handle it.

What we collect

• Device identifier. When you import a recipe, the app sends a random, app-specific identifier (a UUID stored in your device's Keychain) to our server so we can apply rate limits and the free-tier import limit. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any other personal information.
• Content you import. The URL you share (and, if needed, any caption text you paste) is sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to extract a structured recipe. We cache the parsed result keyed by the URL so repeat imports of the same post are fast and inexpensive.
• Purchase information. If you subscribe to BatchMeal Premium, Apple processes your payment. We use RevenueCat to confirm your subscription status and unlock premium features. We never see your payment card details.
• Aggregate usage counts. Our server keeps a per-device monthly + lifetime count of imports to enforce the free-tier limit.
• Anonymous product analytics. The app records which features are used — for example that a recipe import started, succeeded or failed, that a meal plan was created, or that the grocery list was opened. These records carry only fixed, non-identifying labels (such as whether the recipe came from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or was written by hand, and the app version). They never include recipe titles, ingredients, instructions, the links you share, anything you type, or any error text. We do not create an account or user profile for you, and we never send your name, email or device identifier to our analytics providers (PostHog and TelemetryDeck).
• Install and app-activation measurement. The app includes Meta's (Facebook's) SDK to measure app installs and app openings, so we can tell whether our advertising works. The SDK also automatically records that a purchase occurred. We do not ask for tracking permission and the app does not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA); this measurement is reported in aggregate through Apple's SKAdNetwork. The app contains no Facebook Login, no advertising display, and we send Meta no email address, phone number or other personal information.

BatchMeal does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location or browsing history. The app does not show ads, does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).

What's stored on your device

Your recipes, weekly plan, grocery list, and onboarding preferences live locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. They are not uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.

Third parties

BatchMeal relies on the following services to function. Each handles data under its own privacy policy:

• Anthropic — processes the caption text we send to extract a recipe. See anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
• Apify — used as a fallback to fetch publicly available captions from Instagram posts you share. See apify.com/privacy-policy.
• Vercel — hosts our API. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
• Upstash — hosts the Redis instance that stores rate-limit counters and cached recipes. See upstash.com/trust/privacy.pdf.
• RevenueCat — manages subscriptions. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
• PostHog — receives the anonymous product analytics described above (US region). See posthog.com/privacy.
• TelemetryDeck — receives the same anonymous usage signals. See telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
• Meta (Facebook) — receives install and app-activation measurement, without the advertising identifier. See facebook.com/privacy/policy.
• Apple — processes purchases and delivers the app. See apple.com/legal/privacy.

How long we keep your data

• Cached recipe results: 30 days, then automatically purged.
• Per-device import counters: indefinitely, so the free-tier limit cannot be reset by reinstalling the app.
• Subscription records: as long as your subscription is active, per RevenueCat's retention.
• Anonymous analytics and measurement events: retained by PostHog, TelemetryDeck and Meta under their own retention policies. Because these events are not linked to you, they cannot be traced back to an individual.

Your choices

• You can stop using BatchMeal at any time by deleting the app. Local data is removed with it.
• You can request deletion of the per-device counters and cached recipes associated with your device by emailing us (below) with your device identifier (visible in the app on request).
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in the App Store → your Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Children

BatchMeal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

If we materially change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
